First edition. two volumes. 4to size.Vol I, title page,308 pgs and 83 plates. Vol II,title page,347 pgs and 113 plates.Total 196 plates. Bibliographies mention 197 plates but according to the plate index is complete. Plate corresponding to pg 292 is inserted at pg 267(vases and instruments).the collation match each plate with the list. Someplates with two engravings.Original binding in dark purple leather with tooled pattern and gilt designs in corners and in the center of both covers.this copy belonged to the famous library of Leon Nafilian private surgeon of the last sultan. The book is nowadays very rare.Only the Blackmer copy in 1989 and this copy appear in the market for the last twenty years.Some minor foxing in some text pages in vol I and 5 pages shaved the upper margin not affecting the text. paper label pasted inside cover vol I with explanations about the book most probably by the own Nafilian.Chahine nr 4725. Blackmer 1638. Tobler p 151(calling for 150 plates only). The book is very accurate describing the antiquities . Taylor was involved in the mission that carried the Luxor Obelisk to the Place Concorde like a present of Mohamed Ali to the king of France.
