A beautiful and flamboyantly engraved large-scale sea chart, showing from Palamos in Girona, Marseille, Toulon, Antibes to Albenga in Liguria, with part of the west coast of Corsica.
On verso Italian letter press and engraved plan of Avignon (120x160mm.) and "Isole di Ionquieres, e Torre di Buc nel Canale di Martegues" (120x161mm.) It was originally published in Levanto's 'Specchio del Mare', one of the earliest Italian printed maritime atlases, in 1644. This example was printed in Coronelli's 'Isolario'
The remarkable Vincenzo Coronelli (1650-1718), encyclopaedist, geographer, inventor and Doctor of Theology, was citizen of the Republic of Venice.
He was also one of the most prominent mapmakers and publishers in Europe of his day.
