Collection of 28 lithographies with original color enhanced with touches of gum arabic.Oblong 4to,20x 15 cms(image size)half of them 4-5 cms margins, some others with 1,5-2 cms.The condition is very good.Watermarks that appear in some plates are (F.P and M). All numbered in upper right corner. The highest number is 223 so we quess that this was another issue different from the de luxe folio edition with 62 plates and this issue was intended for a wider audience.
The quality of the lithographies and the colouring is similar to the Luxe edition and made of this set a very attractive collection of what is considered a cornerstone in the history of opera and stage design. Sanquirico was stage designer at the Scala in Milano since 1817 until 1832.
He was admired for his designs and creations. He was very skilled as a painter with abilities to create magical effects through light and colour. He designed the stages for many famous operas by Mozart, Rossini, Bellini,Donizetti etc. We include five photos that give an idea of the quality of the illustration. sanquirico was considered the most important designer of opera settings in Italy during the XIX century.
