Description: A striking large-format map of the course of the river Danube on two sheets. Embellished with two large cartouches, a title cartouche with on one side the Kaizer of the Holy German Empire, Ferdinand III with behind him a woman carying the crucified Christ and on the other side the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire with behind him a woman crushing the crucified Christ under her foot and in the left lower part a scale cartouche with river gods and fauns, symbolizing the river Danube and its many subsidiaries. A beautiful item, first issued by Willem and Johan Blaeu in the Dutch edition of Blaeu's Theatrum in 1635. Ref.: Koeman, Part I, p. 102, map [219]

Colouring: attractive later colouring
Condition: a false fold, otherwise in very good condition.
