Te Haarlem by J. Bosch, 1778. First edition of a finely illustrated work, entirely devoted to invertebrates, observed by means of the microscope. Martinus Slabber (1741-1835) was a well-known and industrious physician in his time. He issued the present work in 18 parts. Each part is dedicated to different persons, either prominent citizens of or politically involved with the Dutch province of Zeeland. Also each part contains a plate, engraved by R. Muys after P.M. Brasser, or M. Slabber. After the title-page follows an index with the Latin and the Dutch names of the animals described by Slabber. Half calf with marbled boards. Boards slight worn on the surface and edges. End papaers secures to spine with restoration tape. Contains 18 full-page engraved and hand coloured plates.
