Interior of the workshop of a book printer. In the background a man seated, shoulders towards the viewer, is working at the boxes containing the types; in the middle of the composition the press and in the foreground the master piling the printed sheets on a table. Inscribed above: 'Bockdruckeye te Haarlem gevonden ontrent het Jaer 1440'; and on the bottom: 'Ovat is de Druckery een konst... snoert den mond.' Signed on the bottom: 'P. Zanredam jnuent. / J. v. Velde Sculpsit.'; used as illustration in Samuel Ampzing's: 'Beschryvinge ende lof der stad Haerlem in Holland [...]' published by Adriaen Roman in Haarlem in 1628.
