Description: A beautiful ornithological hand colored print of Cardinals( Cardinalis Igneus) drawn from nature by Daniel Giraud Elliot, lithographed by Bowen & Co, Philadelphia for Daniel Giraud Elliot`s two-volume 'The New and Heretofore Unfigured Species of the Birds of North America'. Elliot was one of the founders of the American Museum of Natural History in New York and the American Ornithologists Union publish a series of sumptuous color-plate books on birds and animals, writing the text himself and commissioning artists such as Joseph Wolf and Joseph Smit (both of whom had worked for John Gould),Tholery and Morgan to provide the illustrations.
