First edition.Atlas volumen only.54,5 x 37 cms.Additional lithographic title and 97 plates on printed on thick paper.(3 coloured,24 tinted and 3 doublé page some after calotypes by Spackman and Macartney.Binding in middle of XX century half green leather with gilded title and spine decoration.Plate 97 with tear at left corner expertly restored. Internally in very good condition. A very fine copy of this rare folio álbum dedicated to one of the mayor archeological missions carried out by the British museum ever. Newton was vice cónsul in the Levant between 1852-59.
The archeological misión took place between 1856 to 1859 focused with the excavation of the mausoleum of Halicarnassus at Bodrum (Turkey). The misión was exponsored by Stratford Canning , the british ambassador at Constantinople. There were two volumes of text accompanying this atlas but are not present here.
