Description: Third engraving from the suite of 12 entitled 'Premi�re Suite des Mois de l'Ann�e' with an allegory of the month of March. Wreaths with the symbols of Mars, the god warrior decorate the frame; the medaillon at the top center contains the zodiacal sign of the Aries. In the central composition on the background a city on fire; in front of it a fight in the vicinity of a military encampment; in the foreground men are collecting branches from dead trees. On the right a shepherd with his animals in front of a house with smoking chimney. On a cartouche at the bottom: 'Mars terram atq. homines torquet, Coelumq. profondum / Bellisonae alumnus: sed annia legumina fundit / Cum pri Regis'.
Colouring: EURO 605 INCL. VAT
Condition: Prenten, Oude meester prenten, Allegorieen
Technique: Engraving on paper; trimmed within platemark; total: 177 x 239 mm. State I/2 before plate numbering. Repaired tear on the right and small hole within the plate in the foliage of the tree in the center.
