Description: This fascinating, satirical print of a Quakers' meeting was made after Egbert van Heemskerk, the younger. Here his a representation of a Quaker meeting house. The most important feature characterising this print is the woman in the middle lecturing to an audience of men, which in 17th century was definitely odd. The dog in the lower right peeing on a the dress of a woman also listening, emphasizes the artist's point of view. The caption poem is given in Dutch and English, with title in Dutch, Latin and English In this bold image, Heemskert's painting, which is now housed in the Quaker Collection at the Haverford College Library, was expertly translated into print by the exceptional engraver Carel Allard. This engraving is not documented in literature
