Title: La Ville du Mexique prise du cot du Lac (mirrored)
Description: Daumont, Paris ca. 1750-1800 274 x 440 mm Etching/engraving/watercolour Vue de la Ville du Mexique prise du cot du Lac; Paris chez Daumont rue St. Martin. Pasted onto cardboard. Heavy smudging on margins. Light smudging on the print.
Condition: Prenten, Optica prenten, Handgekleurd
Technique: Illuminated optical view of Mexico City. On the left side a town is depicted with churches towering above the buildings. In the water in front of the city farms-like rafts float in the water. To the right people sail their boats filled with plants towards a rock in the sea. Illuminated by small holes and figures which are punched through the paper. At the back of the print we see that the holes are covered with see-through paper. This gives the illusion of lights when the print is held in front of a light source.
