First edition. 2 volumes including 3 parts.folio.Engraved dedication and 178 engraved plates and maps.Original light brown calf with spine gilt. A very fine copy with Ex libris of William Craven dated 1750 and ex libris library of Boies Penrose. Vol I is devoted to Egypt including the first documented printed view of the Valley of the Kings.Vol II dedicated to Palestine, Syria ,Mesopotamia,Cyprus(including a nice printed map) and Crete plus the Greek islands,Asia Minor etc.Pococke travelled from 1737 to 1740 across the East.Described by Gibbon as of "superior learning and dignity". A very good copy with an important provenance.
